MedBillCheckup

Terms of Service

The terms on which MedBillCheckup is provided, what it does and does not do, where your bill lives, and how payment, subscriptions, cancellation and refunds work.

Version 2.2 · Effective 2026-09-25

These terms govern your use of MedBillCheckup, operated by Rémi Toumi, Calle de Lezama, Madrid, 28034, Spain (Individual sole trader (Spain), no company registration number). By using the service you agree to them.

1. What the service does

MedBillCheckup is software that runs in your browser. It reads billing documents you open, on your device, and extracts the amounts and line items they contain. When you ask for the findings, it sends those extracted figures (not the document) to our checking service, which applies consistency checks to them and returns a report describing what it found together with questions you may wish to ask your provider or insurer. It can also draft a neutral message for you to send yourself.

2. What the service does not do

This is the most important section. MedBillCheckup provides informational assistance only.

  • It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment recommendations, and it does not determine whether care was medically necessary.
  • It does not provide legal advice and does not represent you in any dispute.
  • It does not provide insurance advice and does not determine what your policy covers.
  • It does not determine whether a charge is correct, incorrect, fraudulent, or illegal.
  • It does not determine what you owe or what you are entitled to.
  • It does not guarantee that any issue exists, that any issue will be found, or that any amount will be reduced or refunded.
  • It is not a substitute for a doctor, a lawyer, an insurance professional, or a certified medical billing specialist.

Findings are possibilities to check, not conclusions. Verify anything you act on against your original document and with your provider or insurer.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old. You must have the right to review the documents you open: your own, or those of someone who has authorised you.

4. Accounts, receipts and passes

There is no account for reading a bill or for paying for a single bill. Proof of a single-bill payment is a signed receipt that our service issues to your browser after the payment provider confirms the payment. It is tied to the bill you paid for and lives in that browser. If you clear that browser's data, use another browser or a private window, the receipt is not there; keep a copy with Download my data in Settings if you want to move it.

A subscription is the only thing that resembles an account. It is identified by the email address you use at checkout, and the record of it is held by our payment provider. A subscriber can use another device by asking for a sign-in link at that email address; opening the link installs a signed pass in that browser. Keep that mailbox secure: anyone who can read it can use your subscription. Tell us at billcheck.businessacc@proton.me if you think someone else has access. You may forget the pass on a device at any time from Settings.

5. Acceptable use {#acceptable-use}

You agree not to:

  • open documents belonging to someone else without their authorisation;
  • forge, alter or share a receipt, pass or sign-in link, or probe, scan or test the security of the service;
  • use the service to build a competing dataset of billing documents;
  • submit content designed to manipulate the reader or the checks;
  • resell or redistribute the service without our written agreement;
  • use the service in a way that breaks the law where you are.

We may refuse service, or cancel a subscription, for a breach of this section.

6. Your documents and your data

Your documents remain yours, and they remain on your device. We never receive them and hold no copy. The software reads them in your browser and keeps what it reads, your corrections and your results in your browser's storage; you can download, import or erase all of it from Settings, and you are responsible for that copy as you are for any file on your device.

When you ask for the findings, you grant us a limited licence to process the figures your browser sends (line items, amounts, dates, codes and provider name, never the document or the patient's identifiers) solely to run the checks and return the results to you. That processing happens in memory and ends when the response is sent; we store nothing. We do not use your documents or figures to train models and we do not use them for any other purpose.

How we handle your data, and the rights you have over it, are set out in the Privacy Policy and the Health Data Consent.

7. Accuracy

Reading a document is imperfect, particularly for photographs and low-quality scans, and the reading runs on your device with the resources it has. Values that could not be read confidently are marked, and you can correct them before the checks run. You are responsible for checking what you act on.

8. Subscriptions and payment {#subscriptions}

Opening a bill and having it read on your device is free. Seeing the findings for a bill is paid for in one of two ways: a one-time payment that unlocks that single bill, or a Pro subscription that includes every bill you check while it is active. Pro is billed in advance, monthly or annually. Every price is shown before you pay; applicable taxes are calculated at checkout based on your location.

A one-time unlock is for the bill you bought it on. It does not carry over to another bill and does not start a subscription. A subscription includes all bills for the period you have paid for; you will not be asked to pay for anything else until that period ends.

Payment is handled by our payment provider. We never receive or store your card details.

Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, at the price shown when you subscribed, until you cancel. Before you subscribe we ask you to confirm this, and we record that confirmation with your subscription. Each renewal is charged to the payment method you gave, without asking you again, so your access continues without interruption. You can cancel at any time from your billing settings, and you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.

9. Cancellation and refunds {#refunds}

No refunds. Purchases are non-refundable. This applies to a one-time unlock and to every subscription period, monthly or annual, once it has been paid. A subscription period that has started is not refunded in part if you cancel during it. Please read what a plan includes before you buy; every price is shown before you pay, and nothing is charged until you confirm.

Cancelling a subscription. Cancel at any time in billing settings. Cancelling stops future renewals and you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. It does not refund that period.

Why we can deliver immediately, and what that means for EU and EEA consumers. If you are a consumer in the EU or EEA you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance contract for a digital service, under Directive 2011/83/EU. The findings are made available to you as soon as you pay. So at checkout we ask you to expressly request that we begin during that 14-day period and to acknowledge that, once the service has been provided, you lose the right of withdrawal. We record that acknowledgement with your payment. If you do not give it, we do not begin, and you may withdraw within 14 days for a full refund by writing to billcheck.businessacc@proton.me or through the message box on the Support page.

If we got it wrong. The no-refund rule is about changing your mind, not about our mistakes. If you were charged twice, charged after cancelling, or paid for a bill we could not analyse, send us a message from the Support page with the email address you paid with, or write to billcheck.businessacc@proton.me, and we will put it right.

Statutory rights. Nothing here removes rights you have under the consumer law of the country you live in, and where that law requires a refund, it applies over this policy.

10. Availability

We aim to keep the service available but do not promise uninterrupted operation. We may change or withdraw features. Your bills, results and letters are on your device and remain usable there; the checks and subscriber sign-in need our service to be reachable. If we discontinue the service we will give you notice, and you can download everything from Settings at any time.

11. Termination

You may stop using the service at any time: erase the data on your device from Settings and, if you subscribe, cancel from the billing page. We may cancel a subscription or refuse service for a breach of section 5, for non-payment, or if we are required to by law. Because we store nothing about you, there is nothing for us to delete on termination; the payment provider keeps its payment records under its own policy, as described in the Privacy Policy.

12. Disclaimers and liability

The service is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we exclude implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for any decision you make about paying, disputing or not paying a bill. Our total liability in any 12-month period is limited to the amount you paid us in that period.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.

13. Governing law and disputes

The operator is established in Spain. The law that governs these terms, and where disputes may be brought, depends on where you live: as a consumer you generally keep the protection of the mandatory law of your country of residence and can usually bring a claim in your local courts.

Beyond this, these terms deliberately do not choose a governing law or a forum for disputes.

EU residents may use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform.

14. Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes get a new version number and effective date, and the app will show you the new version before it next sends anything to us on your behalf. The version you accepted is recorded on your device.
